PlayStation 2: Failure of reading Discs

I bought God of War 2 these days, since this game is just epic. Originally, this game is payed by ovIm since he wanted that game, but I ordered and received it and would borrow him my PS2. The game came in today, fresh condition, even still in the film. So when I started the game, my PS2 first showed the Configuration panel. So when I switched to the browser, it said that thet the disc cannot be read.

Oh. Yes. Great.

I checked the game cover – it was a PAL-game, an import from the UK, so it must be possible. I took out the disc and puffed a bit on it, but still it didn’t want to work. When ovIm also came in to get GoW2 and his Dead or Alive 4, he was also at a loss.

C’mon man, we payed some cheap price for a brand-new game and now this. F**K!
This is not the first of cases like that. I also got a german copy of Gran Turismo 4, which doesn’t work anymore. Seriously, what the hell is going on?!

I hope that we’ll find out soon…I wanna play some God of War…

Game Report: Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360)

Oh yes! A bunch full of infected zombies, 4 survivors wihich kicks ass like battalions and a big and creepy game-map! That’s LEFT 4 DEAD!

I entered the game without any background information, so I was practically blind, except for the intro vid. This vid at least informs the player about a virus that spread around for 2 weeks. The entire sequency is before the first of 4 gigantic campaigns. You can play one of 4 survivors which are fighting their way through the infected city. Zombies lurk in every corner, and special zombies like the Hunter or the Smoker can make life hard for you.
The main menu of the game is pretty easy built, so you can enter the campaigns and online games easy. One surprise: All campaigns and chapters are already open. Well, truly not very good.
For online matches, you need XBL Gold. F**k.
The gameplay of L4D is simple and fast to use, since a huge bunch of zombies can attack you and your friends at any time. Also, very funny is the fact that you can easily kill an incoming bunch of zombies with a single grenade, because the zombies start to run in it’s direction and try to beat it down. There’s also an achievement for that: Kill 20 Zombies with one single grenade. Else, you can shoot the zombies with an assault rifle (M16), a shotgun (looks like XM1014), a sniper rifle (like AWP), an SMG (like M42) and pistols (you can take up to 2 pistols.). You fight your way from one chapter to another, each of them divided through a special room the zombies can only enter if the door is open. Within the room, there is a selection of weapons, medipacks and ammo so you can hunt zombies without a lack of something.
There are specific point that make the game very exctinig:
– If a so-called “Boomer” vomits on you, it won’t take seconds until a huge bunch of zombies will show up. Also, if you accidentaly activate the alarm signals of some cars, the bunch will also come up. Also in special events.
– The maps are huge and have a whole bunch of places where zombies can hide. Also, the will be weapons, ammo and other items like painkillers or molotov-cocktails on the map.
Also, there specific and unique zombies that can come up at any time:
Hunter – a fast and aggressive zombie, can jump at distances like 10 metres or more. Attacks outta nowhere (I got various shockings from these b***hes!)
Boomer – A really fat zombie, can vomit on you and attract a huge bunch of zombies. Blows up if you shoot him.
Smoker – Catches the survivors with his enourmous tongue. Blows up to a poisonous cloud if you shoot him apart.
Witch – A female zombie, sits in some places like a siren and crys out a terrific melody. If you disturb her, she will paralyze you and tear you apart with her big claws.
Tank – A big and strong zombie, often punches away the smaller zombies to get to the survivors. Very hard to kill, if you can kill a tank all alone you’ll get an achievement.

Update (31.01.2009)
I changed a few times the difficulty of the game, and soon it came to a case when me or another survivor was killed. If the player dies, he has to restart at the last “safety room” (yeah, i forgot that word). If a computerzied survivor dies, you continue the campaign until the dead survivor shows up in a small room you have him to get out of. In some cases (for example If you encounter a Tank) this is very helpful.

Since I got some friends at mine’s last evening, we tried out the coop-mode, for my friends just to try out the game and for me to write about it here :P
The splitscreen has one big minus: it heavily slows down the game, so you have to get used to it first. Of course you got the same positive and negative aspects like single player, but also, in case of death, a dead player can show up in a room if the other player survives long enough. Another gut point in case of taking out a Tank.
I think I’m gonna buy some XBL Gold the next days, to try out some online matches.

For the ones who don’t like to read this much, here a listing of positive and negative aspects I experienced:

Positive:
– Huge maps, big an detailed environment
– No lack of ammo (except for some cases)
– Creepy atmoshere
– zombies can come from nowhere
– AI-Bots are intelligent enough to heal you

Negative:
Zombies are too easy to kill – Except for the Expert-Mode.
– XBL Gold required for Online matches
– Source Engine cannot take out the maximum power of the 360
– Game is slower during Splitscreen

I finished most parts of the game, but still I need to check out the online matches and the zombie gameplay. I’ll update this Post If I get to know something interesting. I think in the end you can access all information I can give you about Left 4 Dead.

Basic Changes & Unreal Tournament 3 – Online

Today, I’m making two major updates.

First of all, I reduced the number of shown post from 10 to 4. Most of our posts become very, very long, and I dont want this site to load forever, nor do I want a lot of scrolling.
Monday, my XBox arrived. Lets think back : it was shipped to Microsoft the Monday before. So my XBox needed exactly 7 days to travel to Microsoft, to get repaired and then came back to me. Speed : great!
The XBox now works as good as I remember it to work, just all my settings were deleted as they had to replace the mainboard. But reconfiguring is a thing of like 10 minutes. Works fine now, im currently downloading some demos.
Today, I also played a few sessions UT3 online. A quick match was found within 7 seconds ( yes, I stopped the time ) and I inmediatly had the chance to jump into a running Deathmatch.
The Bots were as stupid as ever, the host set the dificulty of them to easy. The players in the recreation zone, on the other hand, were a completly other subject.
Some of them didnt knew how to use the strafing, and got gunned down very fast. Others were really good, strafing , dodging, shooting, everything you need. The first match I played from the start ended in 40 frags for the Leader, and 33 frags for me and an other opponent. Ill be checking out profi and underground as soon as I can.
I didnt try any team matches, so I dont know if theres a use for the headset, but I sure hope there is.
I was surprised to find a game so fast, but it seems like this was the only game avaliable at the moment of playing, because when I tried to join another match I ended up in the same match as before with the same players as before. I dont know if its because I played at 14 o clock, of if there arent that many gamers that want to play. Maybe sunday, when I have moar time, I’ll start another session.
If you see me online, feel free to pm me, frag me or both ;D

Azure Dreams – boredom with charm!
January 18, 2009, 3:10 pm

Yesterday when I pluged in my SNES, NES and PS1 I found a game which shackles me
for hours to the Playstation. It’s called Azure Dreams.
What a baaad game…

Azure Dreams plays in the destert town Monsbaiya. Monsbaiya is popular and well known for his big Monster Tower which habitat more then hundred types of monsters. The town sells the monster and is getting more rich than ever before. Adventures from all over the world come to this tower to find money and Monster Eggs.

You the hero, named Koh, are born as the son of the best Monster tamer ever.  His name is Guy. One evening when Guy reaches the top floor of the tower a shiny and bright light appeared over the tower.  Later at the same night his Monster returned back to his family without any sign of Guys life.

Years later you are 15 years old and now an adult. Your mom gives you the Monster tamer Necklace of your father so you can enter the tower and tame monster. This is where the
game begins.

The aim of Azure Dreams is to reach the top level of the floor to find the legendary Monster Egg. That sounds really simple. But it’s actually not!

There are some cool features in Azure Dreams. Like in Lufia II or Diablo theres a random map generator. Forget to notice or draw maps. It’s useless! Muahahahah…… sorry…

Another feature is that Azure Dreams give you the chance to meet girls and fell in love with them. This is funny but totally useless. In the Japanese version of the game you can marry the girl that you like most. But as I said it’s only in the Japanese version.

You also can upgrade your house or other buildings in the town. It’s not necessary but the people will talk about you and so you reputation grows the more buildings you build. This has no influence on the game but it’s funny. You also have a lot of Minigames if you build buildings. You can build a track in which you can be part as jockey and earn money. Or you can build a Casino.

Hmm the Gameplay have positive and negative sites, but mainly negative.

You can only enter the tower if you have less than five items in your bag. In addition you can’t leave the tower as you want. You have two ways of leaving the tower. The first one is the easiest. If you find Wind Chrystal you get warped in your house. The second one is to find a fruit which let disappear your monster which is with you in the tower and after
this send you at home. If you die while you are in the tower you lose all your money which you have earned and every item! Yes even the items you brought with in the tower.

In addition the hero is able to level up in the tower. But every time you leave an re-enter the tower your level is set to Lvl:1 again! Only the Level of your monsters remain unchanged.

Your monster have MP. Even if you only walk the monster is using MP. If the MP turns to 0 your monster fell asleep. If you come to this point your f*cked! If your monster is asleep you can’t give him any food to recover MP or something like that. So you have to leave the tower or pack your monster away and go on. But I wouldn’t suggest that.

You can visit the tower as much as you want. But after a few time it still s*cks… Every time you do the same thing. Run…Run…Press X to hit the monster…Kill the monster…Run…Run…
find a item… Run…Run…Lift…next floor. The fights are boring and slow.

But the game still have charm if you wanna say so. You train your monsters…just to defeat the best ones! You gotta catch em all! … Wait wasn’t that in another game…?
Ahh screw that! Who cares about that?

Facts:
- Azure Dreams was released in 1998… 2 years before in 1996 a game called Pokémon was published by Nintendo…
- A semi-sequel called Tao’s Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal was released in 2006.
- Tao’s Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal was under the top 10 of the worst game 2006.
