Back 29th August, 2001…. Aventurine SA, a little Game developer and Publisher, launch
a homepage, just to show us that the Next Generation of MMORPGs has finally arrived.
A big change has announced. The face of MMORPGs will change forever.

As I watched the first video, I think it was in 2003~2004, I couldn’t await the release of this game! I wounder what kind of cool things await me in this game.

One day I take a look on the schedule… it’s the 2nd January, 2009.

I finally give up hope to ever see this Announcement, years of pain changed into happy feelings:

“European Release 22th January, 2009″

Fast I visit the offical forum to be sure this isn’t a fake, but it wasn’t! How long I was looking forward
to this day!

Today it’s the 15th January, 2009. And today I read this f*cking post!
[...] was once again pushed back to February 25th, 2009.

F*ck!

I’m going to post a Review of this game when it’s finally released.
But for now I’ll spend the rest of my time smashing my head on my desk.

The name of the game? It’s Darkfall.

Game Report: Assassin’s Creed (Xbox360)

Whoa! Since I’m a great fan of stealth-action and tactical espionage games like Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell, the first game that I bought for my new Xbox 360 was the ultra-cool looking game ASSASSIN’S CREED. I mean, what’s cooler if you’re a master assassin who can climb on nearly every wall, jumps over roofs like a frog and kills his enemies with such stylish moves? I dunno!

NOTE: If you have a problem with reading in English, please check out my school review in German.

Before I bought it, I collected some information. So when I started the game, it was even more obvious: the game itself plays in a nearer future. You are the assassin’s descendant, a barkeeper called Desmond Miles, who has been captured by a mysterious science corporation called Abstergo. You are hold by the crazy and impatient professor Warren and his helper, the beautiful female assistant Lucy. Both are forcing you to make use of a special computer called “Animus”. With this machine, you can access a secret genetical memory of a human to get specific information. And so, you enter the past, the time of the third crusade, approx. 1191 AD.
You now get to control the real Assassin, known as Altaïr Ibn L’Ahad. In a tutorial, you learn the controls a tricks of the Assassin. Then, you “tune in” to the real Story.

The Story begins with a failure: Altaïr (like “Al-Ta-Iir”), full of arrogance, is not afraid of breaking the Creed of the Assassins, and makes a fatal mistake. One of his comrades dies due to that mistake, and Altaïr returns to the master, Al Mualim, with a failure. But, the other comrade also returns a bit later, heavily wounded, but with the requested object they were sent for. Suddenly, the fortress of the Assassins is being attacked by the leader of the Templars, Robert de Sable. You must activate a trap to get rid of him and his big bunch of soldiers.
As done, Al Mualim summons you to the palace again, and another short movie sequency begins: Al Mualim blames Altaïr for the death of his comrade, for the almost-failure of an important mission, and the attack of the templars. In the end, Al Mualim stabs Altaïr with a golden knife.
You wake up later as fully alive, but you have lost your ranking. Now, you have to assassinate 9 special people to restore your ranking. But, with the ranking, you also lost some abilites and weapons. You start with the long saber and the Hiddenblade. For each killed person you will get either a new weapon or a special ability.

The gameplay of Assassin’s Creed is really clever and easy to use. You have a kinda “Pupperteer-Control”, so you got one button for each part of the body:
Y = Head
B = Right Arm
X = Left Arm
A = Legs
You don’t have something like health, but you have a Synchronisation-Bar, which shows how synchronal Desmond and Altaïr are. If the bar reaches zero, you’ve lost the connection to Altaïr and he’s dead. The Animus will then tune in to the last saved memory.
You have a simple choosing option for the weapons, and each of it has it’s strengths and weaknesses:
Big Saber: Heavy and strong attacks, but a bit too slow. Only good for a few enemies.
Battle Dagger: Swift and fast attacks, with a big possibilty to inflict fast and big damage to an enemy. my favourite weapon for fightings.
Hiddenblade: A special gadget on your left arm. The only way to assassinate a requested person in the story. Unfortunately very useless in close combat, since you can only use it in a counter-attack.
Throwable knives: Up to 15 knives to throw them at enemies from a distance. Instant kill. Not usable in close combat.
Also, another hint for close combat: Altaïr is fast and strong, but he has no good armor, and when he takes a hit, he usually takes another one. So it’s a good idea to stay clam and defensive in a close combat, especially when the enemies have surrounded you. You can then strike them down with a single counter-attack.

Since every even great game had it’s weak points, even such an awesome game like Assassin’s Creed has some:
- The storymode can quickly become a lame repeat. You have to do the same thing 9 times. It can get boring.
- The game has a great environment for exploration, but there is nothing much to explore. You collect some flags which are scattered around in different regions or you have to find and smack some templars for “additional memories” and achievements – and therefore for Gamerscore. But even if you know the region like your own wallet, you will walk on a place for 10 times and on the 11th time you’ll notice the flag. Just annoying.
- I don’t really think it’s a weak point, but it’s annoying me. During the game, you will also be able to leave the Animus and walk around in the furute. Since there will be another 2 parts of the trilogy, there will be a big f**king bunch of hints for the next part. Also, you get some information about a conspiracy, but propably go mad because you won’t get all of it. I can’t wait for the next part anymore.

Don’t be afraid of the future-past thing, this game has good balance with it, and still you get to use the true power of the assassin. My recommendation: Go to a store, grab this game and walk to the Checkout. Seriously.

God of War : Chains of Olympus

Yesterday, a friend brought his PSP to school. I asked him if I could play, and started playing God of War – Chains of Olympus.
I have 5 Words for you.
This. Game. Is. Fucking. Great.
I love hack and slay games, and this one totally make me addicted from the very first second.
The game starts after a short loading period with the main menu. You see Kratos face, and the usual options New Game, Load Game, Settings and Challenges. The first thing I noticed was the bgm . It was simply epic.I couldbt wait to start playing.

After I pressed new game, a short Story-Sequence started, which made me familiar with the basic story of God of War. Then, the game switched smothly from Cinematic to game, where I got to kill some Persians.
And trust me, the Spirit of Sparta, the nickname of Kratos, is not playing Mr. Nice-Guy with his enemies. His two swords were able to cover up the whole screen, and an unhuman amount of blood quickly covered the ground. Eventually, I got tired of using the Chaos Blades, and I used the Circle, button , which is a grab/throw move. Kratos impales the enemy with his sword, or rips them apart. With his bare hands. God of War is not a game for an average pansy. With just a few breaks, you will impale bodies, rip heads off and break necks nonstop.
The controls are easy to get used to. Cross is jump, Circle grabs an enemy. Triangle is a heavy attack, while quare does a normal attack. L and R blocks. If you hold L and R , and push the analog stick in any direction, you will make an evasion move. Holding R and pressing a button will result in using a magic attack. And of course, combos are possible.
After some time, when you get mightier, you will be able to do murderous combos. High combos will give you a lot huge amount of Orbs. Green Orbs recover your life, white ones your magic energy, and red ones are used to upgrade your weapons.
Shortly after the first combat, you will jump down into a building, where a Cyclop jumps in and tries to crush you under a pillow in his hand. In this sequence, you will get used to GoWs unique ATB control. If you grab a strong enemie with Circle, they will not just let you tear them apart, they will struggle and try to counter your attacks. You have to perform an action which is randomly chosen. Press one of the four action buttons, smash L and R very fast, or rotate the control stick clockwise or counterclockwise. Every hand to hand combat gets unique, and it is always a challenge, especially when youre not familiar with the Playstation controller schematic.
So, this Cyclop tries to crush you with his pillow, and to prevent that, you have to press Circle very fast. You prepare for further combat, but a giant Monster (a basilisk) appears and eats the cyclop. Prepare to battle this huge beast. Grab does not work from the start, you have to weaken it first. After you beat 3/4 of his live bar out of his body, the beast gets dizzy, and you can press circle. After another ATB, the beast runs away. However, if you fail, the basilisk will regenerate until 50% life energy and the fight will start again.
When you play this game, prepare yourself to get one thing : infinite action. Sometimes, the gameplay slows down for a puzzle passage.
Every situation is underpinned by a great music. The orchestralic soundtrack really catches you and makes you wanna hear it loud. And I mean, loud.
The sound effects are great to. Every enemy does his own unique sound and battle-cry, and Kratos voice actor did very well, too.
The cutscenes are great. The german translation is very well done. The voice actors do a great job, even though there are a few cutscenes where their acting is just not realistic.
Overall, this game is great. I recommend andy of the Playstation ( Portable ) owners to get GoW. If you dont own a PS2 / PSP, then go and borrow one. Now. Why are you still here?
