Gameplay Report: Watchmen – The End is nigh (Co-Op)

So, after ovIm presented you Watchmen, me and him tried out the Co-Op Mode.

It was great.

By playing the Co-Op Mode, you can pretty easily fight your way through the levels. Because of the fact that you can for example make up who beats which enemy up, me and ovIm could smoothly defeat a whole bunch of prisoners, since in the end the computerized partner would attack any random enemy instead of figuring out some small strategy with you.

The Co-Op Mode is good for a small gamer party, where you can chill out with your friends and kick the ass of various enemies with the help of Rorschach or Night Owl.

I’ll watch the movie soon, but for now, I enjoy beating up bad guys myself – and with Rorschach :D

“Thats what makes this country great. You can read your propaganda, I can read mine”
When the movie Watchmen was released in german cinemas, the Game was released as well on XBL. I didnt trust my eye at first : seriously, a game costing 1600 Microsoft Points? 1.2 GB of Data? What a monster. The
screenshots looked amazing, so I downloaded the Demo, and now im sure : Im
going to watch this movie AND im going to buy this game.
You remember good old arcade style Beat’em’Ups? Running from left to right (
or right to left, punching the shit out of bad guys and feeling great?
Teaming up with a friend and kick evil menances out of the screen? I havent
seen a game like this for a long time.
Thats what the XBL-Game “Watchmen – the end is nigh” is about. Play as Night
Owl or Rorschach and get freaky.
Controls are rather easy, though I havent realised yet how to block attacks.
Left Control stick is moving around (Captain Obvious!) , right Control Stick
moves the Camera. A is an Action, e.g. Opening a door, pulling a switch,
basic stuff like that. B grabs and throws an enemy. Y and X are destined for
attacking, where Y is a light attack, fast and weak, and X is a hevay attack
, slow and painfull – for your enemies. The controls work kinda good, but
sometimes it lacks precision. After you get used to that, the game really
becomes smoother.
I just played through the first half of the first stage. Even though I
played a Single-Player Game, my Partnes was always by my side. Feels good,
not being alone fighting my way through a burning prison. I havent tried
Co-Op yet, but I bet its going to be a blast.
Sound is rather good, sometimes, youre hearing your character think, or
talking with the partner. Though I have to admit, I was too fascinated
playing this game, that I didnt really listen to the BGM.
What really surprised me were the graphics. Seriously, I never thought an
XBL-Game could look THIS good. Ok, the Graphics arent “blast-core high end
crysis” , but they look great, character movement looks realistic and
satisfies any gamer.
The game brought back memories. Streets of Rage or Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles were great Beat’em’ups, and I really did miss that classic Arcade
gameplay. Im thinking about searching for my copy of Streets of Rage , so
I’ll be able to play that again.
Honestly, everybody who likes the Watchmen-Movie and owns an XBox – download
that. If you dont like Watchmen, but like Beat’em’Ups – Download that. And
if you dont like Beat’em’Ups – why are you reading this?

Game Report: Saints Row (Xbox 360)

SAINTS ROW. The name sounds like some mystic role-play game. But, the truth is: Saints Row is nothing but a pretty bad copy of GTA IV.
The game starts as you, the player, get involved into a confrontation of 3 street gangs: The “Los Carnales”, the “Westside Rollerz” and the “Vice Kings”. You survive the conflict and get picked up by Jules, the leader of the 3rd Street Saints. Later, you are invited to join the Saints, but for joining, you have to beat up some Saints. You get to learn the controls of cars, what to do where, and stuff.
The big goal of the Saints is to wipe out the other street gangs and take control of the whole city of Stilwater, and you’re an important person in this plan, since you do most of the tasks to take over districts.
The whole gameplay is mostly based on GTA. An big, open world for exploration, and free movement. You can either buy something at a shop or shoot the seller and open the safe. Police will try to take you down, but mostly, they are pretty weak. Also, you earn money by either performing a task for the Saints or by perform some “Activities”, like defending a drug dealer, driving at car races or commit insurance fraud.
In the end, the explanation of all details of the game would blow up the blog.

Like every game, Saints Row has also some negative points:
– Weapons: If you ran out of ammo, you can either pick up enemy weapons, or if you don’t find anything you can go to the weapon shop and buy some ammo FOR THE PRICE OF A WEAPON. Wtf?!
– Money: You earn money, but you earn not enough. It can be bad in some conditions.
– Graphics: The graphics are mostly too undetailed, the full power of the Xbox is not used.

Saints Row is a pretty good game for many hours of playing, but unfortunately it can’t beat GTA IV in any single factor.
Another info for you: Saints Row 2 is already released. I thinking about buying it. I’m afraid it’s not worth its price.
