For all the ones who love games about sci-fi, space empires and imagination, but also for the ones that are hanging around in the internet full of boredom, OGAME, the strategic browsergame, is a good advice.
OGame is made by the GameForge AG, and is spread all over the world with even multiple languages. The german OGame.de consists of at the moment 76 different servers, each of them filled with almost over 9000 (!) Players.
The only thing you need to play Ogame is a common internet browser, like Firefox or IE.
But what happens in OGame?
You are a new space emperor. You just colonized a new planet and you are now about to create your own space empire, constisting of a mine production, a science laboratory where you improve your empire, and a spaceshipyard, where you construct a destructive Fleet to either steal the ressources of other, weaker emperors or either crush their fleets. You get points for building up your empire, your defense and your fleet, also for everthing you spend ressources on.
There are 4 ressources in Ogame, each one more worth the other:
Metal – A common ressource, used for almost everything. Biggest extraction.
Crystal – Rarer than metal, used mostly for science and spaceships. A “Crystal-absence” can come up with time.
Deuterium – Know as Heavy Hydrogen and used for science and as spaceship fuel. Very weak extraction.
Dark Matter – A special ressource, can be found at expeditions and mostly be bought for money. You can spend Dark Matter for special account upgrades.
During the years OGame existed, the Players took out tactis the inventors didn’t even plan. OGame has turned into a high-class, flexible and intelligent browsergame. Also, coders invented various tools and addons to make OGame even more interesting and easier to play.
The biggest deal about OGame is the following fact: NO HUGE GRAPHICS.
The only thing you see is a screen where you can click on buildings so a timer goes down till the building is finished, or some Warning like “Enemy fleet approching in 5 minutes” (of course better than I said here :P). Nevertheless, millions of players all over the world are fascinated by OGame.
During time, some servers got special conditions, like double-speed, a bigger universe itself, or Defense2Debris. OGame is developing itself without stopping, and most developments came from players of OGame.
As I’m an OGamer it should be a crime to say something bad about OGame, but, in case of neutrality, I have to do that:
– A big problem for now are the universe deaths. Due to games like World of Warcraft, OGame’s player community count fell harshly down in the last two years. In 2007, The average of players per server at OGame.de was about 10.000, now it’s nearly 8.000. Because of the Deaths, several OGamers came up with “raising projects for newbies” where they teach new players about tricks in the game.
– Another problem would be the development of the game, leading to a big complexity for newbies. New players are not aware of the multiple tactics in OGame, and can lose the fun fast. The raising projects are also made to solve this problem.
– Time: The average OGamer has a online-time of approx. 5 hours a day. It’s needed to stay up-to-date, to be within competition, since everyone is hunting for a high ranking – and for points. The game is not fitted for average or weak internet users who spend max. 2 hours a day on the internet. You can’t play with that short time.
OGame is a very interesting and long game – and in my opinion, it can really compete with all those awesome-ass graphic game, since you have to use your imagination.
I recommend the game for everyone who’s filled with boredom and is hanging around in the internet 24/7.
Teeworlds is a 2D Comic Shooter which makes a lot of fun.
What is more fun than shot down little, cute, Kirby-like balls
with your Grenade Launcher or the good old Shotgun.
This is a very Community based game. Players can host their own Server with different Modifications like One-Shot-Kill or Football. In addition everyone can create Maps for Teeworlds with the Editor which is in the Game. You are even able to create your own weapon- and Tee-skins if you have some Skills with Vector programms.
The Teeworlds.com Forum is one of the most friendly Forums I’ve ever been for a long time. Helpfull advices like: “Use the Search Function…” or :”shut up! –closed–!” are not unusual. The ambience in the forum is very relaxed.
Sounds pretty good huh?
But even this game have dark sides…
The Coummunity beyond the Forum is barbaric and cruel.
At the most time the players does not play Teeworlds. Instead of train their skills, they spend most of their time to offend the mum’s and dad’s of the other players. They write texts which have more than ten lines in the chat and flame the players who shot them in this time.
Or you have players who connect to the server and then go AFK only to be a easy target and score object for the enemy…
what the fuck…?
On some servers you also have friendly fire. But this is a piece of Force. And what happend to force in combination with kids?
No more questions…
